Nova was sold to an analytics company. What will happen to the launcher now?

There is a clear favorite in the world of Android launchers, and this is Nova, a free and very popular app so far. Yes, this launcher has a paid version that costs $4.99, but the developers often arrange promotions offering full functionality for a dollar or even less. Today, July 19, it became known that Nova Launcher was acquired by the analytical company Branch. The creator of the project, Kevin Barry, spoke in detail about the changes that are expected in the near future.

First of all, don’t worry, Barry remains the main developer of Nova Launcher. The deal with Branch will allow the use of analytics, which will make the launcher better. The analytics company, in turn, is interested in using Nova as a testing platform, since it needs a significant audience. In this situation, both companies will have to complement each other.

The creator of the application assures that Nova will not change much after the deal. In particular, they will not change the app’s monetization plans, add ads to the free version, or introduce a subscription. At least in the near future. What is definitely promised is more experimental features for users to test and submit feedback to Nova and Branch. It is also possible that the features will be different (A / B testing), and this is something that the application developers have always avoided.

Nova Launcher 8.0.2 beta is due out soon, adding features from Branch – shortcuts and search among contacts.
