It is the beginning of a new era for the K-Pop I-DLE group, and for many reasons.
The first step of this transformation was the change of name. On May 1st, the quintet formed by Soyeon, Miyeon, Minnie, Yuqi and Shuhua announced that he would put the “g” aside. The lyrics, which meant “girl”, officially left the scene. From now on, the group simply serves by I-DLE.
“I think we finally find our true identity,” explains leader Soyeon to CNN . “Originally we were ‘I-DLE’, but with the parentheses involving G, our identity seemed a little indefinite.”
Another novelty is the mini-album “[We are]”, Launched on Monday (19), the first since the renewal of the contract with the company Cube Entertainment in December 2024. Among the six tracks, is the single” Good Thing “, which criticizes the superficiality of appearances in the modern world.
THE CNN the artists said it was the first project in which all members participated in the composition and gave details of the seven -year relationship they have. Check it out:
The name change from “(g) i-DLE” to “i-DLE” marks a new phase for you. How does “I-DLE” reflect the current identity of the group and the trajectory that traveled together?
SOYEON: I wouldn’t call Rebranding, but I think we finally found our true identity. Originally we were “I-DLE”, but with the parentheses involving G, our identity seemed a little indefinite.
Shuhua: It was a little ambiguous.
SOYEON: Yes, now we find this identity properly, and we will continue to show even better sides of ourselves.
The album [We are] It is the first after contract renewal. Was the process different from previous releases? What was the concept or message that guided the creation?
Yuqi: When it comes to concept and message, including style, we were certainly bolder and more fearless. Most importantly, for the first time, all five participated in the composition and writing. It’s a very significant album for us.
What was it like to have all participating in the composition and the letter?
Shuhua: At first, Soyeon asked me, “Shuhua, do you want to write a song for the album?” I thought a little and said, “Okay! Let’s do it!” I gathered a lot of courage. I hope you enjoy it.
Minnie: And you, Miyeon? Count too.
Miyeon: In fact, Soyeon was the first of us to write and compose. Then Minnie and Yuqi came next, and made really cool songs. I think I was able to challenge myself because of their positive influence. So I just want to thank you.
Your clips always bring extra layers of meaning to the songs. What can you tell about the concept of the “Good Thing” clip?
Minnie: This time it’s a clip that has a lot of I-DLE’s face.
SOYEON: I agree.
Minnie: It is very quiet.
Yuqi: We look so close, so friendly.
Minnie: It’s a clip that shows how we really are in real life.
Yuqi: Fully. Peace and love.
Minnie: In the clip, you can see how much we love each other.
Miyeon: In fact, even fighting can be part of love.
Yuqi: Ah, but we didn’t fight at all!
Minnie has already commented that you have developed a unique way of communicating without words. How this connection influenced the creation of [We are]?
SOYEON: I think we really know each other very well.
Minnie: We already understand each other just looking at each other.
SOYEON: True, truth.
Yuqi: You can know what the other is thinking only about the actions.
SOYEON: Like knowing if someone is sensitive today.
Miyeon: Or you can play with her that day.
Minnie: Exactly, know whether you can play or not.
Yuqi: Oh, this is very funny.
I-DLE has always been seen as a group of strong and independent women who have creative control over their music. What impact do you expect to cause for next generations of women in music?
SOYEON: When we debuted, people called us bold and different, partly because we are women who write and make up their own songs. But more than that, we want to be a group that creates more opportunities for all artists to express themselves freely.
But it is also important to have moments of vulnerability and ask for help. What do you do when they need strength?
Miyeon: I think it’s important to practice some self -control. I have a phrase I created: “Let’s do our best today.” I say this not only to Neverland, but also to myself. It’s like a magical spell.
SOYEON: I totally agree.
ALL: Let’s do our best!
SOYEON: I loved! [risos]
I-DLE seems to have a very honest public stance, without fear of saying what you think. Do you see yourself like this? Do you think this strengthens the connection with the fans?
SOYEON: We all have very sincere personalities, and we are not afraid to argue when it takes. We are the type who speaks exactly what they are thinking. I think this appears a lot in our music too. Maybe that’s why fans find us interesting and different from other groups.
Can you remember a moment when you really felt powerful? When do you feel more like the strong people they are today?
SOYEON: Yuqi, you always say you feel that way, right?
Yuqi: Honestly, I don’t think it’s something I feel. It’s just part of who I am.
SOYEON: Ah, like confidence?
Yuqi: I believe you need confidence to do anything, and I think I was born with it. I probably already had this confidence still in my mother’s womb. So instead of a specific moment, I think I’m like this every day at all times.
Can you send a special message to Brazil’s Neverlands?
Miyeon: For our fans from Brazil, our Comeback is coming! So we hope you give us a lot, a lot of love and get excited! We really want to see you soon!
