Now it’s your turn not to be accomplices

This article is published in number 17 of Vanity Fair on newsstands until April 27, 2021

“Shoot yourself you idiot bitch. I don’t want culattoni in the schools to teach the third gender … Did you understand dirty fool recommended you daughter of a bitch? ».
I’m sorry to open this newspaper with such crap. But I think it is right, indeed no, fundamental. Because what you have just read is the content of some tweets sent to Nina Verdelli, one of the journalists of Vanity Fair, in response to her post in support of the Zan bill.

To write it is this Andrea Pulze, obviously a false profile, one of the many “trolls”, or a spoiler in the pay of third parties who is paid to spread hatred, divert debate and pollute democratic processes.
There are also real people who say similar things, it must be remembered: people who throw words of fire, contempt and humiliation towards the weakest, towards those in the minority, towards those who think differently. Nina Verdelli has a one-year-old son (whom they wished for death), she is the daughter of Carlo Verdelli (the real father of this splendid newspaper) and came to Vanity Fair under my direction, that is when the parent was director of the Republic (the nepotism they accuse him of is a colossal lie).
It always works like this: women, homosexuals, trans, disabled people are among the most attacked, targeted, covered with insults by serial haters. And it is precisely for this reason that the approval of the Zan Bill is needed: because hatred pollutes democracies, hurts people and prevents everyone from taking a step forward as a civilization and as humanity.
As editor of this newspaper and also on behalf of the entire editorial team, I would like to say two final things about the initiative in support of the bill that we launched last week.
First: they will tell you that the Zan Bill limits free speech and introduces unnecessary criminal offenses. I advise you to re-read the beginning of this editorial and ask yourself: “Shoot yourself slut” is freedom of speech? No. And again: does it deserve by law an aggravating circumstance of hatred in terms of punishment? Yup.
Second: many exponents of the Italian right have joined our initiative to support the Zan Bill. Among these, also Alessandra Mussolini, who has been heavily criticized. In this regard, we think like Vladimir Luxuria, who in a tweet – so beautiful – wrote: “I am ready to welcome those who share the ideal of a society in which the bearers of hatred are discriminated against. gays, lesbians, bisexuals, trans, women and disabled people: from those who would not expect it, it is no less appreciated ».
Now, it’s up to you to choose your side. On the side of those who write, read and do nothing, and therefore are complicit in insults, gestures, violence and tweets like the ones above. Or on the side of those who want to fight them.
