“Now Russians see how the price is formed”: Wildberries reacted to the scandal with the Mastercard and Visa commission

We will remind, today Wildberries announced a “reduction in prices for goods when paying through Russian payment systems.” However, when trying to place an order, users saw warnings about “2% commission for payments with Mastercard and Visa cards” in mobile applications and the web version of the store, as well as a commission highlighted in a separate line in addition to the cost of goods on the checkout page.

In response, representatives from Mastercard and Visa expressed concern about the Wildberries’ decision. Visa announced a planned investigation of the situation.

Now Wildberries have officially responded to Mastercard and Visa applications. The press service emphasized its readiness for negotiations, but noted that so far the company has not received relevant proposals. Wildberries explains:

We have repeatedly stated to representatives of Western payment systems that their commissions are too high for the market and exceed the rates of domestic systems, but their position has not changed. ”

The company stressed that accusations of discrimination against users have no basis, since the tariffs are set by Mastercard and Visa themselves. Wildberries does not affect these rates and does not form them:

Wildberries stands for transparent pricing: now Russians see how the price of goods is formed taking into account the commissions of various payment systems and how they can save money by choosing one or another payment system. “

Also, the Wildberries press service added:

We welcome the statements of payment systems about conducting investigations – but we remind you that the main task of the investigation is not to get out on ourselves. Today, Western payment systems occupy a significant share in the Russian market and dictate their operating conditions to domestic business. ”
