Now Spotify lands on Facebook: here is the miniplayer

As announced a few days ago by Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook begins to integrate solutions dedicated toaudio ecosystem inside the bulletin board. Looking forward to Room solo audio, the first feature to start is the Spotify player integrated in the timeline. Always with the aim of not leaving the application and in the logic of the golden fence. In addition to the purpose of pursuing, at least in part, the orality fever which seems to have made its way into a part of the online audience after the boom of Clubhouse and other similar solutions launched by Twitter (the Audio Spaces) and in the pipeline on other platforms, from Reddit to LinkedIn.

The deal is with Spotify – and how could it be otherwise? – and consists precisely in a small player integrated into the newsfeed which will allow users to play music and podcasts precisely from within the Menlo Park mobile application. In essence, the contents can be shared from the streaming music platform on Facebook in the same way we share an article or a photo today and, once published, listeners can simply click play and listen to them even as they continue to scroll the board (unlike what happens now with the videos being played which, proceeding further, stop), by controlling the playback with the miniplayer which will remain visible at the bottom.

Spotify integration will be available on both iOS and Android in 27 markets, including the United States (for now there is no Italy but the news will soon arrive almost everywhere). Users will see the player even in music videos that contain songs that fall within the license agreements signed by Facebook: at the end of the clip a command will appear to listen to the song that is in the background (or of which that content constitutes an official video clip). Other details and enrichments of the miniplayer will be implemented in the coming months.

Once you have listened to the song shared on the bulletin board Spotify it will continue to play music in random mode, as is usually the case when listening to a single piece selected ad hoc. Those who are not subscribers, of course, will also listen to the advertising. Who has an active subscription, will continue as if nothing had happened. In both cases, if you are not already logged in, you will be invited to access your account (or create a free one, if you do not have one): without it, playback is not possible. Obviously Facebook will receive limited information regarding users and their relationship with Spotify such as the type of subscription and some parameters to customize the experience with the miniplayer. But it won’t use that data, so it assures, for targeted advertisements.

In addition to these new features, Facebook will soon launch i Soundbites, i.e. sound posts consisting of short recordings or extracts of songs and podcasts, which can be modified using the tools and special effects that the social network will make available to users. And the podcast universe will also expand, again in collaboration with Spotify.
