What happens when revenge porn hits the adult world? Which balances are upset? What happens in the workplace, in the family, within oneself? The second season of the series asks these questions Nudes (available from 25 October on Raiplay), taken from the Norwegian TV series of the same name, directed by Laura Luchetti and Marco Danieli and produced by Riccardo Russo. The new episodes premiered within Alice in the Cityautonomous and parallel section of the Rome Film Festival dedicated to the younger generations. Revenge porn is a form of violence. It mostly affects women but also men, as happens in two of the new episodes of the series, and in Italy it is punishable by law (article 612-ter of the Criminal Code). The expected penalty is imprisonment from one to six years and with a fine of 5 thousand and 15 thousand euros. The term revenge porn refers to «non-consensual pornography»or the dissemination of videos or photographs with sexually explicit content, without the consent of the person represented.
“There is no adult affected by the tragedy of revenge porn who does not have consequences in his world, in the family and in adolescents”explains the director Laura Luchetti. «From here the writing has not only focused on adults but has outlined wonderful adolescents, so it is not just a story about adults but it is a story about families because if a father or mother stumbles into a trap like that of revenge porn it is It’s impossible for children not to be affected, same thing if a child has a problem. While in the first season the adults were kept a bit like long shadows behind the teenagers, here the situation is reversed, it is a well-rounded story. Revenge porn spares no one, in this he is terribly democratic.” And it is almost teenagers, in this new season, who become the pillars on which adults find support and shelter.
The new season of Nudes is not just revenge porn but deals with many nuances of everyday relationships. In their fragility and complexity together. There is the relationship that can be controversial between coach and student, the pressure of parents on children, of a boss or colleague in the workplace. «Our episode, which features Silvia, a promising young fencing player (played by Emma Valenti, ed) and Emilio, his coach, (played by Michele Rosiello, ed), had many challenges. First of all the sporting arena, we always imagine the world of sport as that of justice so when a bomb like this explodes in such an idealized world, it makes a lot of noise.” The bomb is brought by a video that arrives on Silvia’s cell phone and features her coach herself, after a party. «We worked to remove and worked on the nuances of relationships between mother and children, coach and student. With writing we have taken a step forward compared to the victim and executioner narrative”. Among the protagonist couples there are also Michela and Francesca (Lucia Mascino, Sveva Alviti)which are told (finally) not because they are a homosexual couple but as a family which, like all the others, finds itself facing the problems that may arise.
From story to story, the protagonists are called to deal with the consequences of revenge porn and sextorsion which, in addition to problems at work and socially, explodes within personal relationships, within the walls of the home. «In this season it is the adults who bring their fragility, naivety, poor sentimental education and often loneliness on stage»continues Laura Luchetti. It happens in the episode of Luca and Giacomo (Fortunato Cerlino, Lorenzo Sarcinelli), a father and son who find themselves dealing with the loss of the woman at the center of their life, Luisa, Luca’s wife and the boy’s mother. In the midst of their pain, vulnerability is gutted by the contents with which Luca begins to be blackmailed.
To construct the stories and their characters, the authors are faced with association Permission deniedone of the reference realities in Italy and which every year follows hundreds of cases related to the phenomenon, also offering legal and technological assistance to the victims. «A fundamental component of revenge porn is that it affects our social sphere», comments director Marco Danieli. «The even more tragic element is that the victim often does not see the end of the nightmare because these materials, even if removed immediately, could emerge again from some Cloud, some legal or illegal page».
