Number of deaths caused by rains in São Paulo rises to 27

The number of deaths due to the rains in the state of São Paulo increased to 27, after the Fire Department found three more victims of landslides in Franco da Rocha in the early hours of Wednesday (2).

The city, which is in the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo, was the most affected by the heavy rains of the last week and records 11 deaths as a result of the impacts.

The São Paulo Fire Department remains in search of seven people missing in the rubble of the landslides. According to the corporation, the work is uninterrupted and “will only be interrupted if safety is affected.”

According to the state’s Civil Defense, 2,854 families are homeless or displaced because of the storms. In all, 31 municipalities were affected. The 26 deaths were recorded in the following municipalities:

Governor João Doria (PSDB) visited the regions affected by the rains last Sunday (30/01) and announced the immediate release of R$ 15 million to help the prefectures of ten cities in urban and social recovery.

The Minister of Regional Development, Rogério Marinho, announced, in a press conference this Tuesday (1st), that the federal government will, in the next 15 days, hold talks on lines of financing and ways to work together with the mayors of the cities of São Paulo. hit by the rains.

President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), after flying over some areas affected by the storms, also participated in the event. He lamented the deaths and said that everything possible will be done to help the region.

Bolsonaro said that the secretary of Civil Defense was sent to the state and the mayors of the regions were contacted. According to him, six ministers were also at the press conference.
