Number of deaths in the war between Israel and Palestinians exceeds 12,400, survey shows

The war between Israel and the Palestinians has already claimed more than 12,400 lives, both on the Palestinian and Israeli sides, according to data released by health authorities on both sides this Friday (10).

The health department of the Gaza Strip, controlled by the radical Islamic group Hamas, revealed on Friday a death toll of 11,078 people since the start of the conflict, which began on October 7. Additionally, the West Bank reported 183 deaths.

Israel revised and lowered the death toll from the Oct. 7 Hamas attack to about 1,200 from a previous government estimate of 1,400.

According to an Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesperson, the review was carried out due to the fact that there were many unidentified bodies and Israel believed that some of those killed were Hamas fighters, not Israelis.

The Palestinian side said on Friday that the Israeli army launched attacks on several hospitals in the Gaza Strip that day, killing dozens of Palestinians.

According to the Gaza Strip’s health department, since the start of the conflict, 21 out of 35 hospitals have closed in the Palestinian territory. The Palestinian Ministry of Health said that day that since October 7 there had been more than 270 attacks on medical institutions in Gaza.

Additionally, at least 57 ambulances were damaged, 45 of which were completely destroyed.

Fighting continues between Israeli troops and Palestinian fighters in the Gaza Strip.

On Friday, the Israeli army continued its air strikes on the Gaza Strip and advanced ground operations, while Hamas continued to attack Israeli military targets.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that day that since the start of the conflict, the Israeli army has attacked more than 15,000 Hamas targets and seized 6,000 weapons, including anti-tank missiles. Furthermore, the IDF pointed out that the Israeli army has now taken control of important Hamas outposts in the Gaza Strip.

Hamas said on Friday it fired missiles at Israel in response to the rising civilian death toll in the enclave.

The Al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, announced that it continued to fight with the Israeli army that day and attacked enemy tanks, among other targets.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Friday that the IDF will take control of the Gaza Strip following the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.

“After the elimination of Hamas, there will be full Israeli security control of the Gaza Strip, including full demilitarization, to ensure that there is no longer a threat from Gaza to the citizens of Israel,” Netanyahu told the rulers of Israeli cities near the Gaza border. Gaza during a meeting in Tel Aviv. “We are not going to hand it over [Gaza] to international forces”, he highlighted.

The meeting was held after Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas reaffirmed earlier in the day that the Palestinians “will not accept the reoccupation of Gaza or the annexation of any part of it under any pretext” when speaking at a memorial ceremony for the former leader. Palestinian Yasser Arafat.

The Palestinian government is prepared to assume its responsibilities in the Gaza Strip as part of a comprehensive political settlement in the West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip, Abbas said.

Abbas also called for the delivery of humanitarian aid, including medical supplies, food, water, electricity and fuel to the Gaza Strip, and called on Israel to stop its “aggression” in the region.
