Number of hospitalizations by Covid-19 rises in 4 states

Four Brazilian states had an increase in the number of hospitalizations caused by Covid-19 between February 26 and March 4. They are: Amazonas, Ceará, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

The data are in the latest newsletter Infogripe, from the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), released by the institution last Friday (10).

According to the Fiocruz report, cases of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) associated with Covid-19 maintained the upward trend already recorded in previous weeks in Amazonas and São Paulo. Ceará and Rio de Janeiro also started to have an upward trend. There is still an initial sign of an increase in Mato Grosso do Sul and Pará.

Infogripe coordinator, researcher Marcelo Gomes highlights the slowdown in the number of new cases among children and adolescents and, on the other hand, increase among adults on the national scene.

“The scenario of a recent increase in SARS cases associated with Covid-19 reinforces the importance of adhering to the vaccination campaign, which started on February 27, so that it does not generate a significant impact in terms of serious cases”, highlighted the researcher in a note. released by Fiocruz.

In the last four epidemiological weeks, the prevalence among cases with a positive result for respiratory viruses was 2.8% for influenza A; 3.0% for influenza B; 26.8% for respiratory syncytial virus (RSV); and 49.7% for Sars-CoV-2 (Covid-19).

Among the deaths, the presence of these same viruses among the positives was 3.9% for influenza A; 3.1% for influenza B; 0.8% for RSV; and 91.4% for Sars-CoV-2.
