The number of people injured in a shooting at the LGBTQIA+ Club Q club in Colorado Springs, United States, on Saturday night (19) has increased to 25, according to city officials. Five people died in the attack.
“Victims are being treated at UCHealth Memorial and Penrose hospitals. The names will not yet be released until their families are notified,” officials said.
According to Penrose Hospital and the UCHealth Memorial Hospital system, several victims are in critical condition and being treated in the hospital’s intensive care units.
Penrose Hospital medical director Bill Plauth said seven victims were taken to the hospital with two people remaining in intensive care. Intensive care means the injuries are fatal, he added.
“The other five patients mostly had injuries to the extremities and two have already been treated and released into the community,” he said. “The others who were admitted to the hospital are still undergoing treatment.”
David Steinbruner, of the UCHealth Memorial Hospital system, said his medical center received a total of 10 patients.
“Both trauma teams at both hospitals were activated and responded, the ERs responded, and we [conseguimos] take care of that very quickly and take care of the patients as best they can right now,” he said. 🇧🇷
“We have critically ill patients as well,” Steinbruner said. “Several people being treated in our ICU.”
According to authorities, “several firearms were found at the scene. Police are still working to identify who owned the firearms.”
At a press conference this Sunday morning (20), authorities said the number of injured could change.
The suspect for the attack has been identified as Anderson Lee Aldrich, according to Police Chief Adrian Vasquez at the news conference.
The suspect used a long rifle in the shooting, according to authorities.
United Airlines offered services for those trying to contact affected family members, with “free round-trip air transportation for up to five family members per victim.”
