Although the covid-19 health emergency has officially come to an end, the stories around this virus do not stop emerging, such is the case of a nurse from the Netherlands, who admitted to his colleagues having killed at least 20 coronavirus patients.
According to the medium Daily Mail, Theodoor “V”, 30 years old, decided to end the lives of his patients on his own, without prior authorization from the hospital or from their relatives.
After his confession, authorities at the Wilhelmina Assen Hospital (for which he worked) informed the police who subsequently arrested Theodoor.
The prosecutors in charge of the case claimed that Theodoor bragged to his colleagues that “as a pulmonary nurse at Wilhelmina Assen Hospital, he had prematurely killed 20 patients during the coronavirus pandemic.”
The first indications of the investigation suggest that the nurse performed medical procedures on patients who, in his opinion, “were terminally ill and suffering.” However, these processes were carried out without the authorization of his superiors or the relatives of the inmates.
According to Sébas Diekstra, a lawyer for the hospital, Theodoor is in preventive detention and the relatives of the victims have already been informed about what happened.
Han Mulder, a member of the hospital’s board of directors, confirmed that Theodoor is no longer part of the workforce and reported that the clinic authorities are willing to participate and provide the necessary information so that the investigation can be carried out quickly and with best results.
We ensure the well-being of our employees and the surviving patients or family members involved. In the next period, we will mainly focus, together with the police, on collecting data.
As for the relatives of the victims, there are those who have already filed a formal complaint to obtain justice, while others will wait for the investigation to take its course to have sufficient evidence and face the nurse who deliberately made decisions.
