An illegal nursing home was closed in Salvador on Wednesday morning (25). The Public Ministry of Bahia (MPBA), with the help of other authorities, closed the place that was operating illegally in the capital of Bahia.
According to the MPBA, the ‘Lar de Idosas Filhas de Dulce’ operated in a public building occupied illegally, without the minimum hygiene and safety conditions. The property belongs to the public authorities and was occupied, operating with illegal water and electricity connections.
Around 16 elderly women were living in an unhealthy environment, with a lack of ventilation, adequate lighting and even a proper bathroom. One of them had to be hospitalized due to dehydration. She is still hospitalized.
According to the report, the facility operated without proper documentation and in total disregard for the Elderly Statute. The elderly women did not receive adequate care and did not have access to activities that promoted their physical and mental well-being.
After the inspection, the MPBA contacted the person responsible for the home to immediately leave the property and arrange for the elderly people to be handed over to their families. However, no action was taken. The MPBA emphasizes that the family members may also be held criminally liable for abandonment.
The person responsible for the long-term care facility for the elderly (ILPI) was taken to the police to give a statement. She will have to answer administratively and criminally for the illegalities.
