The Rio de Janeiro Civil Police arrested nursing technician suspected of raping a patient in the Getúlio Vargas State Hospital in Penha, north of the state capital. He will answer for the crime of vulnerable rape.
The information was confirmed on the morning of Friday (16) by the delegate responsible for the case, Leandro Gontijo, holder of the 22nd DP (Penha). The name of the technician was not disclosed.
On the morning of Thursday (15), the investigators were in the hospital to reap the testimony of the victim, who is still hospitalized. Soon after, she was transferred to another hospital unit, where she will continue her medical treatment. The collection of biological material for expertise was also requested. Other witnesses, including unit health professionals, were heard by the police authorities.
The complaint points out that the crime occurred between the night of Wednesday (14) and the dawn of Thursday (15), inside the hospital. According to the victim’s report, the first episode took place during a hygiene procedure held behind a Biombo, where the nursing technician would have taken the opportunity to touch his private parts.
Hours later, at dawn, the man would have returned to bed and threatened the patient, stating that he would inject a liquid into his body if she reported the abuse. Then, according to the complaint, he placed the genital organ in the patient’s mouth, culminating with the aggressor’s ejaculation.
The management of Getúlio Vargas Hospital was communicated on the incident and called the Civil Police. The suspect was identified and taken to the 22nd DP, where he initially denied the accusations, but remained detained under investigation.
In a statement, the Rio de Janeiro State Department of Health and the direction of Getúlio Vargas State Hospital reported that they repudiate the episode denounced by family members of the patient and that the case involved an outsourced professional who worked in the unit.
The folder states that, “as soon as it became aware of the case, on the morning of Thursday (15), the direction of the hospital called the police, informed to the secretary and the health foundation of the unit, so that all appropriate measures were adopted. A hospital team accompanied the family at the police station.
The secretariat said it is available to police authorities to collaborate with the investigations and that a multidisciplinary team was assigned to provide support and psychological support to the patient and family.
