Nvidia expects $ 150 million in revenue from CMP production for Q1 2022

The largest manufacturer of video accelerators Nvidia expects that for the first quarter of fiscal year 2022, the company’s profit from the production of chips for mining cryptocurrencies will exceed $ 150 million.

In February, it was reported that Nvidia will launch a special chip for mining cryptocurrencies called CMP (Cryptocurrency Mining Processor) and, to make it more attractive to miners, will limit the hash rate on RTX 3060 graphics cards. It looks like the sales of the devices are even better than expected:

“The company has raised the expected profit from the new CMP product for industrial cryptocurrency mining to $ 150 million. Earlier it was expected that the profit would be $ 50 million,” – said in a press release from Nvidia.

Company representatives did not provide more detailed data on how many devices were produced and sold. However, the hashrate of the Ethereum network – the most popular cryptocurrency mined with video accelerators – continues to grow. This is facilitated by both the growth of the entire cryptocurrency market and the growth of the ether rate. In early April, the price of ETH reached $ 2,150 for the first time in history.

Recall that, as it became known earlier, Ethereum miners were able to bypass the hashrate restrictions on Nvidia RTX 3060 video cards.
