Along with the top-end GeForce RTX 3090 Ti graphics card and the entry-level GeForce RTX 3050, Nvidia today unveiled two more desktop graphics cards: the GeForce RTX 3080 12 GB and the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti 16 GB. Rumors about them have been circulating for a long time, and now it has come to the official premiere. It should be said right away that the matter was not limited to a simple increase in the amount of memory.

The GeForce RTX 3080 12 GB, in fact, received a new GPU with 8960 CUDA cores, 280 Tensor cores and 70 Ray Tracing cores. The usual GeForce RTX 3080 with 10 GB of memory has them, respectively, 8704, 272 and 78. It is equally important that the width of the memory bus of the new item is 384 bits versus 320 bits for the model with 10 GB of memory. This resulted in a significant increase in memory bandwidth – by 20% or up to 912 GB / s. The memory chips remained the same – GDDR6X with a frequency of 19 GHz, but the TDP value increased slightly – from 320 to 350 W.
In general, the GeForce RTX 3080 12 GB differs from the GeForce RTX 3080 10 GB, much more than one might think looking at the name.
In the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti 16 GB, the amount of improvements is more modest. The GPU configuration has not changed, the memory bus width is still the same 256 bits. But along with the increase in volume, the memory frequency also increased: instead of chips with a frequency of 19 GHz, chips with a frequency of 21 GHz are used. As a result, the memory bandwidth increased from 608 to 672 GB / s. The TDP value has also become higher – by about 10 watts.
The cost of new products has not been reported. Sales will start in the first quarter of this year.
