For a very long period of time, insiders from all over the world have published allegedly reliable data about the new video cards from NVIDIA, but as it turned out, they were all wrong in a number of ways. The fact is that today, September 20, NVIDIA really introduced the video cards of the RTX 40 line, but only the volumes of the built-in memory agreed with the predictions of the secret information providers. The RTX 4090 does indeed have 24GB of GDDR6X VRAM, so it ends up being four times more powerful than the RTX 3090. True, we are talking about synthetic benchmarks, not actual video game scenarios.
In addition, to the great regret of gamers, insiders missed the price – if two days ago enthusiasts confidently announced a retail price of $ 1499 for the RTX 4090, then in fact it turned out to be $ 1599. True, the situation with the RTX 4080, which was also officially announced today, is even more complicated. This model is presented in two memory options – with 12 GB and 16 GB. The junior version is priced at $899 instead of the $699 that the RTX 3080 sold for at the time, while the older model starts at $1199. It turns out that NVIDIA has raised the price of their graphics cards by $200 compared to the RTX 3080.

At the same time, it is worth noting that these are prices for reference video cards – models from partner companies (and they have already presented their RTX 40 lines) will be at least 50-100 dollars more expensive. Accordingly, it is simply impossible to say that the collapse of mining and the drop in sales forced NVIDIA to sell the new generation at a low price. But the saddest thing is that during the entire hour-long presentation, NVIDIA did not show a single graph comparing performance with the previous generation – literally a minute, if not less, was allocated for the announcement of the RTX 40. This is extremely strange, considering how the RTX 20 or RTX 30 was presented. Moreover, the release date (October 12) was only announced for the RTX 4090, while the RTX 4080 should be released in November. Without specifying the exact date of the start of sales.

And NVIDIA didn’t show either the RTX 4070 or the RTX 4060 – they weren’t even announced. On the chart where NVIDIA showed its current lineup, they simply didn’t leave room for these video cards – but there are RTX 3060, RTX 3070 and RTX 3080. Apparently, the company decided to leave the previous generation for now along with new generation video cards for enthusiasts.
