Nvidia is bringing back old graphics cards, but they may be worse than the original

The shortage of graphics cards in the market has led to the fact that Nvidia has launched production of older models. Among them are the GeForce RTX 2060 (it was removed from the assembly line last year), and even the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti. However, as the test of one such “old new” GeForce RTX 2060 showed, the new model may differ from the original for the worse.

We are talking about a 3D card RTX 2060 Storm X Dual D6 6GB from the South Korean company Emtek. In the past, she already had such a model, but the new product turned out to be worse in at least two parameters. Firstly, the power supply subsystem has become simpler: if earlier it used the “6 + 2 phases” scheme, now it uses “4 + 2 phases”. Secondly, the cooling subsystem has become simpler: there are half the heat pipes, and the copper base of the radiator, which was in direct contact with the GPU, disappeared. Of course, such “innovations” can greatly affect the performance and stability of the video card in overclocking mode (although the frequencies remain the same).

It is not excluded that other manufacturers will follow the Emtek path. So if, due to the crisis, you have to deal with a video card of the previous generation that has returned to sale, be careful: the new product may turn out to be worse than last year’s or the year before last.
