Nvidia May Resume Release Of Graphics Cards For Cryptocurrency Mining

The management of Nvidia is considering the possibility of resuming the release of video cards specifically designed for mining cryptocurrencies, if there is a demand for them.

According to Colette Kress, Nvidia’s CFO, there is currently no exact data on how much video cards go into the hands of miners. On the other hand, there is a shortage of RTX 30 series devices in stores around the world, as they are bought out in whole lots.

“If the demand from miners is significant, then we can resume the production of special video cards. We have no data on how many RTX 30 series devices are sold into the hands of miners, and we do not believe that this is a significant number. We see a lot of demand from gamers and we believe that they are the core of our customer base, ”said Kress.

Special video cards for mining are devices based on ordinary chips, but lacking video outputs. They are installed in farms where no monitor connection is required. Basically, ETH and other altcoins are mined with the help of video cards, while Bitcoin miners prefer special ASIC devices.

Earlier, RBC Capital Markets analyst Mitch Steves (Mitch Steves) said that in the third quarter of 2020, miners bought video cards for $ 175 million. In September 2020, the Russian retail chain Citylink reported a 49% increase in sales of video cards for mining.
