Nvidia releases driver for RTX 3060 graphics cards without protection from ETH miners

GPU manufacturer Nvidia has released a developer driver with no limit on the hashrate of RTX 3060 GPUs for Ethereum miners. The company previously stated that it was impossible to bypass the protection.

Last month Nvidia announced that it will limit the hashrate of these video accelerators to combat the shortage of Nvidia RTX 3060 video cards, which are bought by miners literally “from the factory.” The company claimed that the RTX 3060 drivers will determine the load on the graphics cards specific to the Ethereum mining algorithm. If such a load is detected, the hash rate will be programmatically limited by about 50%. The hash calculation speed for the GeForce RTX 3060 chip is about 40-46 MH / s, but due to the restrictions introduced, its performance should automatically decrease to about 21 MH / s.

However, forum user Guru3D
wrotethat the new version of the “experimental” Nvidia driver number 470.05 allows you to mine ETH at the usual speed of 46 MH / s. The video card can “overclock” up to 50 MH / s. A few days ago, a Chinese Twitter user under the pseudonym I_Leak_VN reported that he purchased eight of these Nvidia video cards, and all of them allow you to mine ether with a stable hash rate of 45 MH / s using the Dagger Hashimoto algorithm. At the same time, it is still not known how the protection bypass mechanism works.

According to a recent forecast from video card vendors, demand from miners for video accelerators will remain high until at least the second half of this year. Given this “incident” with the release of the GeForce RTX 3060, these video cards will be considered a scarce product for a long time.
