Nvidia said it wants gaming graphics cards to be used for their original purpose, not for mining cryptocurrencies.
An innovation implemented at the driver level is intended to reduce the attractiveness of the GeForce RTX 3060 model in the eyes of “miners”: if signs are found that the card is used in the mining algorithms for Ethereum cryptocurrency, its performance will be halved.
It is not yet clear if this approach will eventually be extended to other models of the GeForce RTX 30 series.
Products of the Nvidia Cryptocurrency Mining Processor (CMP) series will be focused on “professional mining” of cryptocurrencies. The series will include models 30HX, 40HX, 50HX and 90HX, the characteristics of which are shown in the table.
The two junior models should appear on the market this quarter, the older ones next. According to Nvidia, the cards will be offered by ASUS, Colorful, EVGA, Gigabyte, MSI, Palit and PC Partner.
