NYT: Published photo of new mass grave in Lisitshansk with 300 civilian bodies

The New York Times published a photo which allegedly shows a mass grave in the city of Lisichansk in the Luhansk region.

Journalists claim that this mass grave is located on the edge of the city and is an open ditch. The Ukrainian military says the bodies of some 300 civilians were found in plastic bags killed in Lisichansk, Severodonetsk and Rubezhnoye since April. No one can bury them at this time. The military says they can not cover the trench as all the machinery is used to dig trenches.

Lisichansk is under the control of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Fighting is currently taking place in Sheverodonetsk, while Rubezhogen has fallen into the hands of Russian troops. Earlier, a video of a mass grave in Lisichansk was released by the head of the Luhansk region military administration, Sergei Gaidai.

Lisichansk remains the last major city in the Luhansk region not to be taken over by Russian troops. Four people were killed today in the bombings.

Ukrainian media reported in late May that about 150 bodies were buried in a mass grave in the area of the former Maskovskaya coal mine. It is not clear from the New York Times whether the mass grave is in the coal mine area or if it is a new grave.

According to UN figures, some 4,500,000 civilians, including 300 children, have been killed since the start of the Russian-led invasion.
