The long-awaited sequel to “The Auto of Compadecida” hits Brazilian screens on the day December 25th . In the long, João Grilo (Matheus Nachtergaele) returns to the mythical city of Taperoá, in Paraíba, after 20 years and meets his best friend Chicó (Selton Mello).
After the story of her resurrection, which involved a trial in purgatory, with her own as defender Our Lady he will be received by the people with great celebration – almost as if he were a celebrity.
Disputed as the main electoral campaigner by the two most powerful politicians in the city, João does everything to carry out a coup that will earn him a lot of money and the peaceful life he dreamed of. But nothing goes as planned and he will have to turn to Compadecida again – this time played by Taís Araújo.

Colonel Ernani – Humberto Martins
Humberto Martins plays Coronel Ernani, a farmer from the fictional city of Taperóa, the birthplace of João Grilo and Chicó. In the story, he seeks to be re-elected as mayor, with Arlindo (Eduardo Sterblitch) as his main opponent – an appliance salesman who brings sophisticated technologies to the backlands of the 1950s. Contrasting, the characters represent the ancient and the modern, showing that They only have in common the thirst for power.
Antonio do Amor – Luis Miranda
Luis Miranda joins the cast to play Antonio do Amor, a rogue who uses creativity to get some odd jobs and informal services. When the duo formed by João Grilo and Chicó need help, Antonio do Amor goes to Taperoá, and uses his talent for improvisation to help his friends get out of trouble and get some spare change. However, success with the city’s women could ruin everything.
Arlindo – Eduardo Sterblitch
Owner of the only radio station in the city of Taperoá, Arlindo is a man known for his business acumen. In the film, he will try to take advantage of João Grilo and Chicó’s naivety to gain even more power.
Clarabela – Fabíula Nascimento
Fabíula Nascimento joins the great cast to bring Clarabela to life. Daughter of Colonel Ernani, she arrives from the capital to spend some time in Taperoá. However, upon meeting Chicó, the young woman soon becomes interested in the boy’s naive way, but she will have to deal with her father’s repressions and with Rosinha (Virgínia Cavendish), who shares the same passion.
Just like the first film, the sequel features plots from other plays by Ariano Suassuna. The character of Fabíula, for example, is a creation of the work “A Farsa da Boa Preguiça”, written in 1960 by the playwright. Passionate about visual arts, poetry and acting, Clarabela broke off her engagement to dedicate herself to self-knowledge and dreams of studying existentialism although she lives with the hypocrisy of the local coronelist elite.
Rosinha – Virgínia Cavendish
After 20 years, Virgínia returns in the sequel as Rosinha, an independent and modern woman, in love with Chicó.
Joaquim Brejeiro – Enrique Diaz
Joaquim Brejeiro will return to Taperoá unlike the feared bandit who terrorized the Paraíba backlands in the first feature film. Twenty years after shooting João Grilo and sending him to purgatory, he faithfully believes in the story of the countryman’s resurrection told by Chicó.
