The long-awaited sequel to the classic “The Auto da Compadecida “, based on the work of writer Ariano Suassuna, arrives in Brazilian cinemas this Wednesday (25). In the film, the public will be able to find out what João Grilo’s return to the city of Taperoá was like 24 years after the premiere of the first film.
Matheus Nachtergaele and Selton Mello recreate the duo and play João Grilo and Chicó again, in the film that also features Virgínia Cavendish as Rosinha and Enrique Diaz as the bandit Joaquim Brejeiro. The news includes the arrival of names such as Eduardo Sterblitch, Fabiúla Nascimento, Luis Miranda and Humberto Martins; in addition to Taís Araújo, who shines in the film in the role of Our Lady, played by Fernanda Montenegro in the first version.

“The Compadecida Auto 2 ” will have an original plot, but will respect the lyrical universe of Ariano Suassuna, as explained by director Guel Arraes, who works alongside Flávia Saraiva, to CNN . The script is written by Guel Arraes and João Falcão, with collaboration from Adriana Falcão and Jorge Furtado. Produced by Conspiração and H2O Filmes.
The film was shown for the first time during CCXP24, on December 7th, and received a standing ovation from the audience present. On the occasion, Matheus Nachtergaele (João Grilo) dedicated the work to the writer from Pernambuco.
“I hope it is beautiful enough and that it corresponds to the affection that this film has received for so many years and that it is worthy of Ariano Suassuna. Ariano, this film is a gift for you”, said the actor.
