O. Gerovasili: The economy will judge the elections

On the occasion of the recording in the opinion polls of the citizens’ dissatisfaction (of which 8 out of 10 recognize accuracy as the biggest problem) regarding the government’s measures, O. Gerovasili pointed out that citizens are now aware that the wave of precision in both basic necessities and energy has started since last summer, before the war, and they have now deconstructed the government’s narrative that shifts responsibility to the global crisis and war.

While SYRIZA-PS, continued Mrs. Gerovasili, sounded the alarm bell since August of ’21 the government was talking about a temporary crisis. Without strategy and with low reflexes, he lost every chance to deal effectively with the price explosion. On the contrary, it did not seem at all inactive regarding its decision to privatize PPC in the midst of an energy crisis. In other words, it privatized a pillar that could play a decisive role in regulating the energy market.

In addition, a particularly difficult winter is forecast with inflation having recorded a jump in growth which seems to have come to stay.

The government does not face profiteering! It subsidizes it from the state budget

The Secretary of the Central Committee of SYRIZA PS blamed the government for not dealing with the effects of the crisis. Today the farmers are on their knees. Households and businesses are dehydrated. No one really wants to deepen this crisis, but there are responsibilities: misdiagnosis of reality, mishandling and conscious defense of profiteering. Direct account subsidy, for example, helps but does not hit the notoriety. It simply uses money from the state budget to subsidize provocatively high prices.

Urgent and necessary measures: energy price ceiling & excise tax reduction

Olga Gerovasili described as necessary measures: a) the energy price ceiling (a measure from the EU toolbox that other governments have already taken) and b) the reduction of the excise tax on fuel, a measure which has no significant budgetary costs while at the same time will work favorably for households and businesses and will provide a way out of the issue of affected agricultural production

Serious issues are required in national issues

New Democracy went from frocks and helmets as opposition, to Prime Minister’s family photos as government

In the remark of her interlocutor and MP of ND that SYRIZA-PS does not show, as it should, generosity in its comments on the government manipulations, the Secretary of K.O. of SYRIZA-PS noted:

We will praise the government for national issues when there is really a serious reason. This is not currently the case. It is not a question of generosity but of a serious attitude towards issues of national importance. And of course no one forgets the hypocritical attitude of New Democracy in the Prespa agreement, which as an opposition even wore skirts and helmets!
