OAB asks that prisoners in criminal acts on January 8 be transferred to jails outside Brasília

The Brazilian Bar Association (OAB) asked the Federal Supreme Court (STF), this Friday (10), that people arrested in the criminal acts of January 8 who do not reside in Brasília be transferred to prison units in the states source.

According to the OAB, the abrupt increase in the number of detainees in the Papuda Penitentiary Complex caused an increase in the number of health care, escorts, lawyers and other prison routines.

“Fact that negatively impacts the entire Penitentiary System, causing delay in administrative procedures, difficulty in organizing the reserved visit between lawyer and client”, says the document signed by the president of the OAB/DF, Delio Lins e Silva Junior, and by the director of Prerogatives of the Order, Newton Rubens de Oliveira.

The request was forwarded to Minister Alexandre de Moraes, rapporteur of the investigation that investigates anti-democratic acts. So far there is no decision on the request.

Also according to the OAB, of the approximately 1,400 arrested last month after the attack on the headquarters of the Three Powers, approximately 1,200 do not reside in the federal capital.
