OAB-SP has to reflect changes in society, says new president

The OAB of São Paulo elected the first woman president in almost 90 years of history. Criminalist Patricia Vanzolini won the dispute with more than 35% of the votes. According to her, the OAB has to mirror the changes in society.

“The victory of our ticket is very important for it to be aligned with the change that society has experienced. Today, women are already more than 50% of those enrolled in the Order, and she has to reflect this change in society. This is still not enough. It is necessary for the Order to be an example and encouragement of these changes in society”, said Patricia Vanzolini.

The president-elect of the OAB-SP also stated that legal training has not kept up with changes in law, and that the OAB has a fundamental role in complementing this training of law students.

“The law has changed a lot, but the problem is that legal education has not kept up. And the formation of many faculties really leaves something to be desired. The Order does not have the role of prohibiting or authorizing the opening of Law courses. This is a role of the MEC. But the OAB has a fundamental role in complementing this deficient formation, promoting qualification and qualification, including in areas of innovation and new areas of Law that can guarantee employability”, said Vanzolini.
