A group of famous “girl parents” issued an open letter in support of Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris to “fight for the future of our daughters”.
Former President Barack Obama is among the Hollywood and DC notables who signed the letter released on Sunday, which was National Father-Daughter Day in the US.
“We write to you from every corner of America,” the letter says. “We come from different backgrounds, professions and beliefs. We are Democrats, Republicans and Independents. But there is one thing we share: we are Parents of Girls who recognize that, because of Donald Trump, our daughters are growing up in a world with fewer rights and less freedom than their mothers and grandmothers.”
The letter is addressed to “Parents of Girls Across America.” Signatories include actors such as Kevin Bacon, Courtney B. Vance, Robert De Niro, Don Cheadle, Mark Hamill and Leslie Odom Jr; musicians like Common and Lance Bass; Hollywood heavyweights like director JJ Abrams and producers Brad Falchuk and Will Packer; and politicians including Pete and Chasten Buttigieg, Maryland Governor Wes Moore, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, and Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz.
“Right now, we are at a crossroads in the fight for our daughters’ future,” the letter states. “While Vice President Harris fights for a better, brighter future – in what she calls a “New Way Forward” – for our children, Donald Trump has a project that would give him complete control over our everyday lives and futures.”
