Obese murderer released from prison to go on a diet – He had killed his girlfriend with 57 knives

A 31 year old murderer who had stabbed his girlfriend 57 times after quarrel because he left “a lot of crumbs” on the bed, he was released because he couldn’t follow a diet plan while in prison. Dimitri Fricano, from Biella in northern Italy, killed 28-year-old Erika Preti while the couple were on holiday in Sardinia in 2017.

However, despite the fact that the 35-year-old sentenced to 30 years behind bars for the murder attack, a judge has ruled that he is “incompatible with the prison regime” and should be under house arrest to avoid dying of obesity.

The killer was 117 kg in 2019, but quickly gained weight after entering prison. Prison staff said he was so heavy he needed a wheelchair or crutches to get around and needed care they couldn’t provide. This means he will be released after just one year. It is noteworthy that his trial was initially delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Although Fricano initially claimed that Erika had been murdered by robbers, he later admitted: “She insulted me about the bread and then hit me on the head. That’s how I killed her.”

His defense team said their client struggles with a range of issues, including bulimia nervosa, personality disorder and sleep apnea. Doctors have argued that he is at such a high risk of heart problems that he needs to special diet which he cannot follow to prisonbroadcasts the Mirror.

Erika’s devastated family are furious at the decision and her father Fabrizio Preti told local media that even powerful gangsters are not treated so well in prison. “House arrest for Dimitri? It’s a shameful decision. No one will give me back my little girl. But for us, the pain is even greater that he was released so soon. Time, they say, heals wounds, but not these two of parents who took their daughter from them. When some friends informed me, after reading it online, that Dimitri had been placed under house arrest, a wound reopened. It was like being stabbed in the heart. His case is rare. To think that not even the Mafia gets this treatment. However, I was assured that if he recovers, he will return to the cell. I don’t think that’s actually very likely to happen.”
