Object that entered Polish airspace is likely Russian missile, says Polish general

He sounded the alarm to the Polish army

An unknown object entered its airspace Poland from the direction of the border with Ukraine this morning, the Operations Command of the Polish army said, while Russia carried out one of its biggest attacks overnight in Ukraine since he invaded the country.

“In the morning, an unidentified object entered the airspace of the Republic of Poland from the side of the border with Ukraine and from the moment it crossed the border until it disappeared the signal was tracked by the radars of the country's air defense system,” the Administration said Businesses on the X platform, according to Reuters and the Athens Agency.

“In accordance with prescribed procedures, the commander of operations of the armed forces mobilized the forces and resources at his disposal.”

Private TV network Republika reported that authorities are searching for the object near the town of Chrubieszów in southern Poland. Reuters was unable to immediately confirm this information.

“We received information that an object appeared on the radar near Hrubieszów,” said Krzysztof Komorski, commander in the Lublin region, via Platform X. “We have no confirmation that it fell within our region.”

Russia targeted Ukraine with 158 drones and missiles overnight, mostly targeting critical infrastructure, industries and military installations, according to the Ukrainian military.

A “stray” Ukrainian missile struck the village of Przewodow in southern Poland in November 2022, in an incident that raised fears of Ukraine's war spreading across the border. In April, a military object was found in a forest near the village of Zamosc near the city of Bydgoszcz in the north of the country. It was then reported that it was a Russian missile.

Polish officials said emergency services, including police and army volunteer units, were searching the area but it was unclear whether the object fell on Polish soil. There are no reports of casualties.
