The Bate-Papo Astronomical observatory, in Santa Maria, in the interior of Rio Grande do Sul, recorded more than 4800 rays between 5 am on Monday (29) and 10 am today (30).
Electrical discharges are detected by radio frequency, at a distance of up to 40 km from the sensor.
According to Fabricio Còlvero, creator of the project, the number of electrical discharges could be even higher, considering that this type of sensor records between 70% and 80% of the total.
Rain accumulations also attract attention.
In the same period, rainfall exceeded 200 millimeters at the meteorological station, which is located in the same location.
Deaths in RS
The number of deaths rose to two after the heavy rains that hit the state of Rio Grande do Sul . The body of a 65-year-old man, who was missing, was found by the population this Tuesday morning (30) in Paverama, in the Vale do Taquari region.
On Monday night (29) the body of another man, aged 69, had already been located. According to information from the Fire Department, the two tried to cross a flooded area in Paverama by car and the vehicle ended up being swept away by the force of the water.
