Occupied city targeted by missiles, says Russian group

The Ukrainian city of Melitopol, currently occupied by Russian troops, was hit on Tuesday night (local time) by a series of air strikes. The information was given by Vladimir Rogov, a member of a group of supporters of the Moscow regime, through Telegram.

“It’s noisy in Melitopol! A series of explosions were heard in the city. One of them is very powerful and resounding,” said Rogov, according to information from the Russian news agency Tass. “Russian air defense attacked missiles flying towards a peaceful city,” he concluded.

Melitopol is situated near the Sea of Azov and about 120 kilometers from Zaporizhizhia. The region was taken over by the Russians during the occupation of Ukrainian territory, which began in February last year. Ukraine did not comment on the authorship of this attack.

Russia has systematically accused Kiev of carrying out air strikes against occupied regions. This Tuesday, the accusations extended to a drone raid on Moscow, which resulted in shooting at a residential building. The action resulted in “minor damage to several buildings,” Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said. All eight unmanned aerial vehicles [UAVs] of the type of aircraft launched in the Russian capital were destroyed, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

The Russian Foreign Ministry later commented, saying it reserves the right to take the “most severe measures” in response to the drone attack.
