Twelve people have been occupying the main lecture hall of the University of Leipzig for some time now, shouting slogans against Israel. Around 60 people, members of the “Palestine Campus” organization, have gathered outside the university. The Conference of Student Unions of Saxony has called on the university's chancellorship to “immediately end the occupation and break up the protest camp” and strong police forces are already at the scene. “The University of Leipzig decided to evacuate and called the police,” said rector Eva Ines Obergfell, stressing that the violent disruption of classes and the occupation of university premises should not be tolerated. “There was an immediate risk to the safety of students and teachers. The decision to vacate was inevitable,” he added, noting that the university has filed a lawsuit against the squatters. Earlier today, around 100 activists occupied the premises of the Free University of Berlin, from where they were removed with the intervention of the police. Source: RES
