OECD recognizes Ukraine as a potential member

The council of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) recognized Ukraine as a potential member of the organization, following the request of Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.

The information was confirmed in an official statement by the OECD secretary-general, Mathias Cormann.

From now on, the organization starts discussions to consider fulfilling the requirements for the “Consideration of Potential Members”, highlighted in the body’s 2017 guidelines.

Only with the end of this debate will the OECD be able to consider opening the discussions for a possible accession.

“The OECD remains committed to Ukraine and its people. We support their reconstruction and recovery efforts and look forward to the speedy restoration of peace and stability across the sovereign territory of Ukraine,” said the Secretary-General.
