Official: Support for Windows 10 will end in 2025. What does it mean

Microsoft has updated the document specifying the end-of-life dates for various versions of Windows 10. For the first time, there is a date that refers to the operating system itself, and not to specific updates that have been released over the past several years. According to the changes, support for Windows 10 in the Home and Professional editions will end on October 14, 2025, that is, in less than four years. Thus, only a little more than 10 years will pass since the launch of Windows 10.

As the deadline approaches, Microsoft is expected to stop adding new technologies and features to the operating system through bi-annual updates, as it has done since 2015. Users will only have access to bug fixes and security patches.

This early clarification of information about the end of support for Windows 10 is directly linked to the upcoming launch of a completely new version of the OS – Windows 11. Next week, June 24, Microsoft will hold a special event where it will present the “next generation of Windows.” The invitation to the event includes a window with a drop shadow outline similar to the number 11. Also recently, the software giant posted an 11-minute video on YouTube channel with slow-motion sounds of the launching of previous Windows.

According to rumors, “the next generation of Windows” will be marked primarily by a redesigned and more modern interface design. Other innovations include a major overhaul of the Microsoft Store and support for Android applications. Recall that with the approach of the presentation, there are more and more unambiguous hints about the announcement of Windows 11. The explanations are detailed in a separate article.
