Official: the new Nissan Leaf will be a crossover

Nissan’s new Leaf electric car will be a compact SUV. Rumors about this have been circulating on the web for a long time, but now the information has been officially confirmed by the head of the European division of Nissan Guillaume Cartier (Guillaume Cartier).

Back in July, plans were announced to build a new crossover in Sunderland as part of a massive £ 1 billion investment in the plant. The Nissan Leaf electric crossover will go into production in 2025 at a plant in the UK. At the initial stage, it is planned to produce 100 thousand cars annually.

Official: the new Nissan Leaf will be a crossover

The new Nissan Leaf crossover will be based on the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance CMF-EV platform. By 2025, Nissan’s main lineup will include five models, all of which will be electrified crossovers: Juke, Qashqai, Ariya, X-Trail and Leaf.

The emphasis on electrification means Nissan will not invest in combustion engine technology to meet EU7 emissions requirements due to be introduced in Europe in the middle of the decade.

There are no technical details about the future of the Nissan Leaf yet.
