Officially: Russian authorities will provide discounts on electric cars – up to 625 thousand rubles

The Ministry of Economic Development, together with the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia, have decided on the next steps to support the spread of electric vehicles.

Minister of Economic Development of Russia Maxim Reshetnikov with Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Alexander Morozov agreed on the conditions for obtaining a discount on electric vehicles.

The maximum discount for buyers will be 25% for cars worth up to 2.5 million rubles. That is, the maximum discount will be 625 thousand rubles.

The discount will be provided for electric vehicles assembled in Russia. So, until the end of 2023, the discount will apply to the purchase of large-unit electric vehicles, including those using an imported battery. Further, the conditions will be as follows:

  • from 2024 to 2025 – for small-unit electric vehicles (welding, body painting) or with a domestic battery;
  • from 2026 to 2030 – for small-unit electric vehicles with a domestic battery.

According to the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, by 2030, these measures will help create 39 thousand new jobs, attract 600 billion rubles of private investment, and replenish the budget by 200 billion rubles.

The department also reported that additional study is underway on the development of the direction of hydrogen fuel cells, infrastructure for such electric vehicles and related industries. By 2024, it is planned to put into operation about 2.9 thousand “fast” charging stations, and by 2030 their number will grow to 27 thousand.
