Murder charge

In 1994, Simpson was prosecuted for double homicide in the state of California on charges of stabbing his ex-wife, Nicole Brown, and her friend, Ronald Goldman, to death.

Simpson pleaded not guilty and assembled a team of well-known local and national lawyers. Robert Kardashian, father of the famous Kardashian sisters, was a friend of OJ and was an assistant on the team of defense lawyers, nicknamed the Dream Team.

The athlete was tried and later acquitted of criminal charges in a process that involved questions about race, celebrity and forensic evidence. Despite his criminal acquittal, Simpson was later found responsible for the deaths in a civil lawsuit brought by Goldman's family, resulting in a large financial settlement, reaching $33.5 million in damages.

His trial is described as the most publicized criminal case in American history, watched by more than 20 million viewers. Lasting 372 days, 133 witnesses were heard
