Social Democratic Party (SPD) and Chancellor-designate Olaf Solz secure election victory in Germany. Their goal is a quick agreement with the Greens and the Liberal Party (FDP) in order to form a governing coalition that can be sustainable beyond this parliamentary term.
Speaking today after the SPD presidency meeting in Berlin, Solz said: “This is a narrative of progress. “If three parties, which have progress in mind in the early 2020s, work together, something good can be done, even if they have different starting points.”
Olaf Solz: Negotiations “no fuss, no dark maneuvers”
“Our goal is for the new government to be able to continue to exist for more than one parliamentary term. “Partners should govern in such a way that citizens can trust them and be re-elected.”
He described as “completely okay” that the Liberal Party (FDP) and the Greens they want to talk to each other first, as broadcast by the German Agency and rebroadcast by the Athenian News Agency. “I want to build a government based on trust. A dissuasive example is the Conservative coalition (CDU / CSU) and the Liberals (FDP) from 2009 to 2013. The FDP will remember how bad things went then. We will coordinate very quickly the discussions with the other parties with which we want to form a government. The consultations should not last long. The negotiations will not be made public. We will do this with the friends we want to govern with. “No fuss, no dark maneuvers,” he stressed.
Six Social Democrats will conduct the SPD talks
Six Social Democrat politicians are going to hold these talks on behalf of the SPD: the Solts, party co-chairs Saskia Esken and Norbert Walter-Bourgeois;
“The SPD, the FDP and the Greens have a clear mandate to form a government as the winners of the elections. In terms of views there are several overlaps. “Respect (for each other), the modernization of the country and the fight against climate change are the main tasks,” he added.
The current vice-chancellor also recalled “the very successful coalitions of Social Democrats and Liberals under SPD Chancellors Willy Bradt and Helmut Smith. “It is also clear that no one can ignore the vote of the voters without causing harm.”
The name of Christian Democrat and Christian Socialist Chancellor Armin Lasset (CDU) candidate was mentioned in the SPD only incidentally. “The fact that he wants to be chancellor is funny,” said SPD General Secretary Lars Klingbail, while Soltz said “conservatives should no longer rule but should join the opposition.”
