G7 leaders, who held an online summit today, decided to create a “platform” for “coordination of financial assistance» to Ukraine, announced the German Chancellor ‘Olaf Solz.
“The goal is to quickly build this platform with the participation of Ukraine, international financial institutions and other partners”the German chancellor explained during a press conference in Berlin, comparing the reconstruction of Ukrainian with the Marshall Plan implemented by the USA to rebuild Europe after World War II.
The G7 leaders – United States, Germany, Canada, France, Britain, Japan and Italy – they spoke today via video conference on the issue of Ukraine.
A new conference on support for Ukraine, emergency aid and the reconstruction of the country in the long term, will be held tomorrow, Tuesday in Paris.
“We are convinced that this is our unity, our determination, which isolated the Russian president (Vladimir Putin) and we once again call on Mr. Putin to stop the senseless massacres in Ukraine and withdraw his troops,” said Solz, whose country chaired the G7 this year.
On Sunday, the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky he spoke successively with his US counterparts Joe Biden and France’s Emmanuel Macron to prepare for this G7 summit as well as the Paris conference.
According to the Élysée, “heads of state, heads of government, ministers” of 47 countries, as well as UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, will participate in this international meeting.
The US president on Sunday reiterated his support for Ukraine, according to the White House.
These summits are taking place while Russian forces are targeting key public service infrastructure, causing, among other things, power outages affecting the lives of millions of people in the winter.
