Last Sunday (20), singer Demi Lovato celebrated her 31st birthday and revisited a famous meme of hers.
Demi posted a video on TikTok where she shows the cakes she received.
“So I just wanted to show you my cakes: this one is so beautiful; this one is so cute,” she goes from a silver cake with her age on the decorations to a rainbow-decorated one. “And this one is so Poot,” says Demi as she reaches a box of cupcakes with a weird picture of her on it.
@ddlovato FREE POOT 😂
The photo in question is of Poot Lovato, the singer’s fictional twin sister, a meme that went viral from a photo.
According to the website “Know Your Meme”, known for recording the history of memes, the photo appeared on the red carpet of Demi’s presentation at the Royal Variety Performance, in 2014, at the Palladium Theater.
Someone took a low-quality photo, which then appears to have been edited to accentuate its negative points.
In October 2015, the image was published by the Tumblr account Cstcrpt, with the caption that would create the myth of Demi’s twin sister: “Demi’s twin sister. She’s been locked in a basement her whole life. This photo was taken the first time she left. Her name is Poot.”
Demi made fun of the meme now, but her initial response wasn’t positive. According to Know Your Meme, back in October, Demi tweeted and then deleted a reaction from her. “Cool to see a shitty angle turn into a meme that circulates the internet for people’s amusement, ha.”
Fans loved it. “I love that Poot is finally getting the recognition she deserves, someone set her free!” says one of the users.
“Congratulations to you and Poot[(por favor, deixe-a sair, Meu Deus]”, jokes another.
