Russian billionaire Oleg Deripaska expects the US administration to take control of the cryptocurrency market.
“Bankrupts overseas got nervous: US regulators want to take control of the cryptocurrency market,” he wrote in his Telegram channel.
Deripaska mentioned Fed Chairman Jerome Powell’s comments on the risks cryptocurrencies pose to financial stability and the importance of regulating them.
“And the point is not only in respecting the interests of investors and consumers – for the authorities it is much more unpleasant that the market, which is already in the volume of $ 1.5 trillion, is slipping away from them. And this money is now very useful for them to refinance the overwhelming debt of the US federal budget, ”he wrote.
The businessman referred to an article by the Financial Times with a statement by the acting controller of the US currency, Michael Hsu, about the coordination of activities between various government agencies.
“Let’s see how soon Biden’s team will move from“ coordinating ”the cryptocurrency market to stifling it,” Deripaska added.
Earlier it became known that the American authorities provided for tougher reporting requirements when working with cryptocurrencies in the budget for 2022.
