Olympic champion, swimmer Ana Marcela wins gold at the Aquatics World Championship

Brazilian Ana Marcela Cunha won this Monday (27) the gold medal in the 5-kilometer open water event at the World Aquatics Championships, held in Budapest (Hungary). The athlete completed the course in 57min52s90, less than a second ahead of French Angelie Muller, second placed. Italian Giulia Gabbrielleschi took bronze. The Bahian won a gold medal in the aquatic marathon at the Tokyo Olympics, held last year.

It was Ana Marcela’s 13th medal in World Cups, the sixth being gold and the second in the five kilometers – her first was three years ago, in the Gwangju (South Korea) edition. Viviane Jungblut, from Rio Grande do Sul, who had already competed in two pool events (800 meters and 1.5 meters) and in the open water relay, finished seventh this Monday.

“Each medal has its special taste, there is a different preparation and preparation behind each medal. I think my first medal, which was bronze, was in the five kilometers. There it all started. Today, reaching the 13th medal, shows the consistency of our work and I am very happy with this achievement”, said the 30-year-old from Bahia to the website of the Brazilian Water Sports Confederation (CBDA).

Ana Marcela falls again in the waters of Budapest on Wednesday (29), at 3:00 am (Brasília time), for the 10 kilometer race, the Olympic distance of the modality in which the Brazilian was a gold medalist at the Tokyo Games. On Thursday (30), at 4 am, it will be the turn of the 25 kilometers, a dispute in which she is a four-time world champion.

In the men’s 5-kilometer race, Brazil was represented by Bruce Hanson from São Paulo (21st) and by carioca Gabriel Arteiro (22nd). It was their debut in individual events at Worlds. Bruce returns to compete on Thursday, at 7 am, with the carioca Guilherme Costa, the “Cachorrão”, in the ten kilometers.

Ingrid makes history

Also this Monday, Ingrid Oliveira finished the 10-meter diving platform competition in fourth position, with 327.10 points. The result of the 26-year-old carioca was the best in the history of Brazil in the modality in World Cups, surpassing the fifth place of Cesar Castro from Brasilia on the three-meter trampoline in the edition of Rome (Italy), in 2009.

Ingrid fought for the podium with Malaysian Pandelela Pamg (who took bronze with 338.85 points) and Canadian Caeli Mckay (who took fifth with 318.45 points). The gold medal went to Chinese Yuxi Chen (417.25 points), followed by fellow countryman Hongchan Quan (416.95 points). Both were also on the podium in Tokyo, with Quan in first and Chen in second.
