Athletes who violate the protection measures against the coronavirus will be faced with penalties ranging from a simple warning or a fine, to expulsion from the event, during the Tokyo Olympics.
This refers to the third and final playbook of the organizers, which was published today, and aims to explain all the strict rules that will come into force. In this way, the organizers hope to reassure the Japanese public, which to a large extent is skeptical or completely negative about the conduct of the Games, in the midst of a pandemic.
“We expect you to respect the rules, but if you do not, you could be sanctioned,” said Pierre Dickre, the Games’ director of operations at the International Olympic Committee.
Possible sanctions start with a warning or a fine and go as far as a temporary or final expulsion from the Games, without specifying which offenses each penalty corresponds to. The ILO and the organizers will set up a special disciplinary committee, tasked with examining any possible setbacks and deciding on appropriate punishment.
