Ômicron advance multiplies cases and redefines directions in the fight against Covid-19

The speed with which the Ômicron variant has spread has set new records in the number of Covid-19 cases in recent weeks. Last Tuesday (10), there were more than 3 million new infections worldwide in a 24-hour period.

Far from being an exception, Brazil may surpass the mark of 1.3 million cases in a single day in February, according to a projection by the University of Washington. The situation increases pressure on the public and private health systems. Many Brazilian cities have registered queues at places of service, lack of tests and difficulty to replace health professionals removed by Covid-19.

In this episode of E Tem Mais, Carol Nogueira presents an overview of the new wave of Covid-19 cases in Brazil and around the world. To describe the directions and concerns of this new phase of the fight against the pandemic, researcher Marcelo Gomes, coordinator of Fiocruz’s InfoGripe monitoring service, and doctor Alberto Chebabo, vice president of the Brazilian Society of Infectious Diseases (SBI) participate in this episode.
