The extraordinary teleconference of the 27 leaders of the EU member states on the COVID-19 pandemic and the Omicron mutation by decision of the President of the European Council Charles Michel. The debate was postponed to the regular European Council to be held in Brussels on 16 December.
According to an EU official, “after a thorough evaluation and consultation, the President of the European Council has decided not to convene a special teleconference for the time being”, according to the APE-MPE correspondent in Brussels.
The same official also informed that the latest developments regarding the pandemic and the Omicron mutation will be discussed at the next regular European Council on December 16. EU health ministers will meet next Tuesday (December 7th) to discuss developments. He also noted that the EU Council and COREPER are closely monitoring the situation.
