Omicron mutation – Britain: “The third dose of the vaccine gives protection up to 75%”

The commemorative doses of vaccines for Covid-19 provide protection against 7075% against mild illness from the new Omicron mutation, announced on Friday the British Health Insurance Service (UKHSA).

In analysis 581 infected with Omicron, the two doses of AstraZeneca and Pfizer / BioNTech vaccines were found to provide much lower levels of protection against the symptomatic infection, compared to the protection they provided against the Delta variant.

However, by administering a booster dose of Pfizer vaccine, protection against symptomatic infection reached 70-75%, regardless of what the original vaccine was, the UKHSA notes.

These findings are some of the first data on the protection provided by vaccines, outside of laboratory studies, which showed reduced protection against Omicron, broadcasts APE BPE.

The first data in “normal conditions” show, therefore, that although Omicron can significantly reduce the protection provided by the initial two doses, the restores it, to some degree.

Recommendation for booster vaccination

“These initial assessments should be treated with caution, but they suggest that a few months after the second dose, there is a greater risk of developing the Omicron variant compared to Delta,” she said. Mary Ramsey, the head of the UKHSA Immunization Department.

According to Ramsey, the risk of developing a more serious disease is significantly reduced after the booster dose and for this he called on all citizens “to make the boost if they are eligible”.

It is worth mentioning that UKHSA estimates that, based on the current trend, by mid-December Omicron will be responsible for more than 50% of all infections in Britain.
