Ômicron represents 100% of the samples sequenced in São Paulo, says Butantan

the variant omicron of coronavirus was detected in 100% of samples in São Paulo, between February 5th and 12th, according to the epidemiological bulletin of the SARS-CoV-2 Variants Alert Network, from the Butantan Institute.

7 were analyzed32 samples by the Alert Network throughout the state during this, which was considered the sixth epidemiological week. The index represents an increase of 22.78% in relation to the 5th week, between the 29th of January to the 5th of February.

Altogether, 11 of the 18 Regional Health Districts that were analyzed showed a decrease in the incidence of SARS-CoV-2. Are they:

  • Big Sao Paulo;
  • Araçatuba;
  • Araraquara;
  • Barretos;
  • Bauru;
  • Campinas;
  • Piracicaba;
  • Ribeirao Preto;
  • Sao Joao da Boa Vista;
  • Sao Jose do Rio Preto;
  • Sorocaba.

During 2022 four circulating variants were identified (Omicron, Gamma, Delta and B.1).

Taking into account all samples sequenced since the beginning of the year, Ômicron represents 98.92% of the coronavirus variants, followed by the Gamma variant (0.54%) and the Delta variant, seen in 0.52% of positive tests for Covid-19.
