The name given by the World Health Organization (WHO) to the new Covid-19 strain and the recommendations for measures from the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) are among the highlights of this Friday night, November 26th.
Ômicron variant
WHO defined the technical name of the new Covid-19 strain as Ômicron and classifies the new strain as a “concern variant”. Discovered in South Africa, the strain has worried scientists because it has too many mutations.
Anvisa’s recommendations
In Brazil, Anvisa recommended the government to adopt restrictive measures for flights and passengers coming from six countries in southern Africa. The Ministry of Health issued a warning to state and municipal departments about the risk of the new strain.
Fiocruz’s order
Fiocruz sent Anvisa a request for registration of the vaccine made with national IFA. The agency has 30 days to analyze the request and will assess whether the new immunizers have the same efficacy and safety as vaccines produced with imported API.
MSD Pill
MSD said the experimental pill against Covid-19 reduces the risk of death and hospitalization by 30%. The studies deal with the antiviral molnupiravir, which is awaiting analysis by regulatory agencies.
PGR requests action from the STF
The Attorney General’s Office (PGR) sent to the Federal Supreme Court (STF) 10 requests for measures based on data obtained by the CPI of the Pandemic. The report was delivered by the commission’s senators to the PGR in late October.
