On 25-26 September at FICO the festival of DOP and IGP products: that’s why to go there

A party to rediscover the great Italian specialties, but also to learn to appreciate their value: it is the Festival of DOP and IGP from Italy that on 25 and 26 September will animate FICO, “the park of Italian food” which has just reopened in Bologna after a year of work, with many new features among its restaurants and street food kiosks, attractions dedicated to food, “factories” that tell how it was born, the farm and the peasant funfair, as well as obviously a lot of space dedicated to the products of the protagonists of the Italian agri-food chain.

WHAT’S THIS
The Festival of DOP and IGP from Italy it is an event to celebrate our great wealth. With 315 PDO, PGI, TSG products we are the country with the largest number of agri-food products with designation of origin, protected geographical indication, and traditional specialties guaranteed by the European Union: the confirmation of the excellence of our products, these seals of quality are also a guarantee of biodiversity protection, as well as a guarantee for us consumers since thanks to these certifications we also have certainties on traceability and therefore on what we eat.

WHAT YOU TASTE
On the occasion of the Festival they can be tasted over 50 specialties, starting with those ofEmilia Romagna, the region that holds the world record for DOP and IGP certifications (44): for example Parmigiano Reggiano, Balsamic Vinegar of Modena and Parma ham, but also the sweet Peperone di Pontecorvo, typical of the Ciociara cuisine, the Ciauscolo from the Marche, the Lentils from Castelluccio di Norcia or the Saffron from Aquila, Modica Chocolate PGI, the Trout and Char from Trentino PGI. There will also be European DOP products.

THE PROGRAM
Organized in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture of the Emilia-Romagna Region and the FICO Foundation, the festival will offer many moments of tasting and discovery: for instance in the market review it will be possible to taste and buy the products of consortia and producers, and in the meantime in the FICO factories you will be able to meet the artisans who create them, watch their production and even animated projections that tell how food comes to life. The arena will then become the stage for quiz on PDO and GI products (complete with a final prize) and showcooking that will teach how to enhance them. For the detailed program www.fico.it.
