One of the key security features in Android 11 is the ability to automatically reset permissions for installed apps that haven’t been used for months. Last September, Google announced that the feature would be rolling out to devices running older versions of Android from December 2021. However, these plans were shifted by a month, and then completely postponed until the end of the first quarter of this year. Now, as promised, the company has begun rolling out the feature to devices running Android 6.0 and above through Google Play Protect.
According to a recent Twitter post by former XDA Developers Editor-in-Chief Mishaal Rahman, smartphone and tablet users running Android 6-10 are already getting an automatic permission reset feature through Play Protect. The corresponding option called Permissions for unused apps (“Permissions for unused applications”) is located in the Play Protect settings. By clicking on it, the user will be redirected to a page where he will see a list of inactive applications that have had their permissions revoked, as well as a list of applications for which this feature is enabled / disabled.
I can confirm it’s rolling out. Booted up a OnePlus Nord N10 5G still on Android 10, and after a few apps updates, the Play Protect settings now shows the “permissions for unused apps” option. pic.twitter.com/idHCsZzHMU

The automatic permission reset feature is being rolled out gradually and is not yet available to everyone. In the next few days, it should appear for all users of devices with an outdated version of Android.
